Truancy Information
The Cornelius Police Department is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system that uses the Tolerate No Truancy (TNT) Policy
The purpose of the Tolerate No Truancy (TNT) Program is to improve student attendance and increase opportunities for academic success, to reduce the opportunity for young people to become the victims or perpetrators of crime, and to reduce the dropout rate. TNT is a collaboration of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Mecklenburg County Law Enforcement Agencies and the businesses and merchants in the community to counteract the truancy of school-age children in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. When notified of a potentially truant student on the streets of Mecklenburg County, a police officer will pick the student up and transport the student to his/her school. TNT serves all children enrolled in kindergarten through age 15 attending school in Mecklenburg County. Staff at the school receive the students brought in by law enforcement officers as a result of TNT and expedite a follow-up process which includes contact with the parents and interventions designed to improve the students' attendance.
